I came here to make the same response that someone on GT had made, but then I saw it was about Narnia.

I'm out.

Because they only see the first three posts, and then they pile on because their nuanced response is more important than ensuring that they aren't just an echo.

Blatant copy/paste for ironic effect. Thanks Gamecat235.

Because the Narnia books are pretty good at brainwashing their readers, or at least a subset of them. They're repeating what they've been told to think/say.

Don't forget, the Narnia series is just a thinly disguised incitement to anti-semitism. People get their knickers in a twist trying to pretend otherwise, usually because they like the fantasy and don't want to accept the subtext.

Same thing happens on the FP all the time. It's part of why I don't venture over there. The commenting system is all messed up to the point that all of the approved commenters generally say a small handful of things while some of the better/different conversations are buried in the gray.

You didn't know that? CS Lewis was a rabid anti-semite. His religious views weren't quite as Christian as is often made out, because there's a strong streak of the Pagan/Norse stuff there as well. When you realise that his religious views were formed in the early thirties, it's pretty obvious who they came from - short man, dark hair, moustache, not Chaplin.

The Narnia series is often criticised for the blatant racism and anti-Semitism it contains, but that's not really going far enough. It's not a sideline for the story: the story is there as a hook for the racism.
